Establishing the Chair reflects how nationally the beekeeping industry is important. Recently, the beekeeping witnessed a considerable improvement as the initial indicators read that the total number of bee ranges for more than one million classes which is expected to be doubled through the coming period due to the efforts exerted by the government to improve the vital economic sectors besides the support and facilitation it provides for the beekeepers. Entities, both governmental and non-governmental, adopts the notion to make beekeeping one of the professions that are utilized to promote the needy families and improve their income resources. In fact, this considerable national resource requires an organized academic effort and subtle studies to preserve it and to optimally utilize it for better economic outcome.

Despite the huge honey production of the Kingdom that ranges about 9000 tons, the local production does not cover the domestic need. Therefore, the Kingdom imports large amounts of honey nearly about 10 thousand tons. Due to the increasingly social perception of the nutritive and medical value of honey, the demand increased on certain types. Hence, the expected mission of the Chair is implementing a definite program to develop the production methods besides utilizing advanced technologies to promote the production and to achieve sustainable development in that sector.  

Considering that the main objective of beekeeping in the Kingdom still for collecting honey, other products like royal jelly, pollen, beeswax, and propolis are not neglected. Therefore, the honeybees in the Kingdom still not optimally invested for various reasons. The importance of the efforts exerted by the Chair is clarified regarding the study of these hindering factors besides promoting the knowledge of beekeepers as well as their professional skills through training and guiding programs
